A patient who is not otherwise terminally ill is now seriously ill with coronavirus, in the ICU but conscious and speaking, and with the mental capacity to make their own medical decisions. They cannot ask for medical dying because:*

They are too short of breath to make rational decisions.
It is too difficult for clinicians to ascertain a less than 6-month prognosis under these circumstances.
They don’t have their family members with them to confirm the decision.
Aid in dying laws prohibit assisted deaths in hospital settings.
